I have terrible underarm sweating – normal deodorants do not work. Do you recommend any products? Foods to avoid?
Here are some things you should consider:
How long has this been a problem – all your life or more recently?
Are you taking any medications? Some medications (anti depressants, for example) can cause excessive sweating as a side effect.
Is the sweating really the problem or the odor? Odor is a function of the types of bacteria that live on your skin and it’s possible to change that to some degree. If it’s just the amount of moisture then that’s different – the best treatment would depend on the answers to the questions, above.
There are more permanent fixes for sweating. A longer term fix involves weekly application of an aluminum gel. There are also, of course more radical approaches including botulinum toxin and surgical treatment of the sympathetic (adrenalin) nerves that supply the sweat glands.
Sweating is an adrenalin state. Some people’s sweat glands are more sensitive to adrenalin than others. I don’t know of nutritional/supplement formulations that are anti adrenalin.
Also, the medication methenamine can be used topically as a gel. It produces ammonia and apparently reduces sweating.
